Storm
More actions
A storm is an extreme weather condition found on most Worlds. These are all except the Mimas, and Space.
There are 2 storm types:
- Simple storm
- Solar storm (introduced in The Storm Update)
Solar storms
Could occur only on the Moon and Vulcan. During the storm the Sun becomes significantly brighter, which leads to the following:
- everything outside becomes significantly brighter, which could make navigation a bit harder in terms of visual perception. May cause some eye discomfort because of high brightness
- more heat is emitted from the Sun, so everything in the world is heating rapidly
Despite simple storms, which don't have any pros, solar storms have positive effects on:
- solar panels, which output could reach 1,5kW for each, when facing the Sun directly
- plants
The following moments about solar storms should be noted, when building a base on the Moon:
- venturing outside during the solar storm heats your suit, so the battery usage is increased, because the life support system is working at increased capacity (HARM suit is recommended)
- take attention to cables in your energy network, because simple cables could handle only 1kW of energy, which could be less, then output of just one solar panel during the solar storm (Area Power Control or Transformer could be used to separate the energy network with heavy cables)
Simple storms
Effects:
- severely reducing visibility
- can blow away loose items and players, especially if they are not touching the ground.
- damage equipment
- change the temperature while active
Items and structures that are known to be damaged by storms include:
- Solar Panels
- Any loose items
- The starting Lander
- AIMEe
- Rover Mk I
Damaged items and structures can be repaired, depending on the kind of structure, with Duct Tape, Glass Sheets or by unbuilding and rebuilding. (Except AIMEe and Rover Mk I).
Players can get advance warning of a storm by using a Weather Station.
Rooms are safe from storms. Note however, the max room size is 1200 cubes. Storms will occur inside rooms bigger than that.
