Description
Ore (Coal) is a type of Ore that can be burned in a Generator (Solid Fuel) for energy, smelted in a Furnace to create alloys, or used in a Reagent Processor to make Spray Paint (Black), or in a Furnace with 100% Volatiles to make Ingot (Solid Fuel).
Obtaining
Ore (Coal) is mined throughout the surface of planets, moons, or asteroids using a Mining Drill.
Processing
Coal can be used as low-level fuel to generate power in the Solid Fuel Generator. Coal can be combined with Iron Ore in the Furnace to create Steel Ingot.
When burned in a Solid Fuel Generator, coal provides sizable 200 kJ of power per unit (20 kJ/tick for 10 ticks or 20 kW for 5 seconds). However, burning it indoors without processing can be bad idea, as it generates hot, toxic gases that can be bad for lifeforms. Specifically, each unit of coal produces the following gases at 473.15 K (200.0 °C):
| 3 mol | Pollutant |
| 10 mol | Carbon Dioxide |
These gases can be released in a Furnace, Advanced Furnace or Arc Furnace or destroyed in a Recycler before being used on the solid fuel generator.
Coal extracted and processed from Dirty Ore doesn't offgas.
Degassed coal can be also processed into Solid Fuel at a Furnace or Advanced furnace with an atmosphere consisting of 1+ MPa of pure Methane at a temperature above 950 K (676.9 °C).
