Description

Nitrous oxide is a reactive gas that will knock players out if inhaled. It acts as an oxidizer for combustion, and allows volatiles to burn significantly hotter, faster, and at a lower autoignition temperature. It can be produced in an energy intensive process inside of a Nitrolyzer.
- Stationpedia

Nitrous Oxide, also referred to as "N₂O" or "Nitrous", is an inert gas primarily used for it's role in the creation of Superfuel. Nitrous Oxide naturally occurs when smelting lead and silver. It can also be acquired by crushing Nitrice

Details

Nitrous Oxide will condense into Liquid Nitrous Oxide at a very low pressure and temperature. Due to this, Nitrous Oxide is best stored as a liquid above 252 K (-21.1 °C). Stationeers are advised to monitor pipelines when setting up Nitrous Oxide gas systems as ruptures may occur if the temperature remains unchecked.

Nitrous Oxide can be combined with Volatiles at a 1:1 ratio to create Superfuel. Superfuel combusts at 323.15 K (50.0 °C), burning much hotter and quicker than Fuel.

While Nitrous Oxide can be acquired through smelting ores and crushing ice, it can also be created via the Nitrolyzer using a combination of Nitrogen and Oxygen.

Notes

  • For rocketry, N₂O has a mass of about 21.7 mol/kg, giving the 1:1 fuel mix a mass of 32.2 mol/kg compared to 62.5 for a Fuel mix.
  • Many N₂O storage build will include a condensation trap to avoid pipe ruptures.
  • Alien Mushrooms breathe Nitrous Oxide and exhale oxygen and nitrogen.
  • Nitrous Oxide will have further usage with the introduction of Surgery, according to patch notes for version 0.1.1671.7828.
